Reaping the fruits of hard labor and team work.

The Food Innovation Center (FIC) Cagayan Valley bagged 7 out of 20 awards during the Recognition of Most Innovative Products held at the Food Processing Division of Industrial Technology Development Institute-Department of Science and Technology (ITDI-DOST) Taguig City, September 22-23, 2016.

Out of 9 competing regions, FIC Cagayan Valley got the nods of the judges during the presentation of more than 100 innovative local products developed by FICs nationwide.

Represented by Provincial Director Nora T. Garcia and Engr. Mark Kenneth Sumbillo, the team brought home a total cash prize of P175,000 from their winning products developed in the Water Retort, Vacuum Fryer and Freeze Dryer.

The judges were wowed in the center’s products including the Ready-to-Eat Banana Roots Recipe; Munggo Filling; Bamboo Shoot Sauce; Crispy Pickled Arius; Crispy Sprouted Munggo; Freeze Dried Arius and Freeze Dried Gamet.

Regional Director Sancho A. Mabborang expressed his gratitude to the team for making it to the next level of the competition. “I am very satisfied with the results. These awards will further motivate our staff to work harder and only proved that we are the leading FIC Innovator among all the FICs across the country,” Dir. Mabborang said.

FIC Cagayan Valley is now a qualifier for the next level of the competition on November featuring the best 20 innovative products that have won in the Most Innovative Products Competition. This time, bigger prizes are waiting for the winning centers.

Ms. Garcia motivated her team to do better and hoped to get an award in the industry level. “Kailangang mag-concentrate, may unity and cooperation kasi hindi lang nakasalalay sa iisa ang tagumpay ng team, kundi sa bawat bumubuo nito,” she added.

The team planned to have enough time on preparing their products and a consultative meeting for a well-organized presentation of innovative products. (KC D. Sucuano/DOST R02-PAI)
