Spearheaded by Science and Technology Resource Assessment and Evaluation Division Planning and Evaluation Service (STRAED-PES) of the Department of Science and Technology, DOST Region 02 conducted a forum on the status of Research and Development sector of the Philippines.
The activity aimed to present the R&D statistics covering 2002-2013 to various State Universities, Colleges (SUCs), Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Regional Line Agencies (RLAs) in the country.
In his speech, Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang said whatever numbers that will be derived from the survey will give opportunities to them to create new strategies and plans to improve their performances in the field of research.
The Science Department, he said, will continue to support the research works of local researchers in different schools and universities in the region.
Ms. Terencia B. Abarquez, planning officer IV, presented the status of R&D from 2002 to 2013 during the forum proper. Her presentation includes the national results of the expenditures and human resources in the field of research.
Ms. Anna Liza A. Predo, planning officer III, mentioned in her report that the forum will not just aware the participants on the status of R&D in the country but also to explain to them the right ways in answering a survey.
Based on the record, she said, Cagayan Valley has a very low data based on the survey they have conducted in the previous years.
Also, an online data base for research and development was introduced for faster compilation and tally of data of all the surveys conducted nationwide. This will be used by the identified participants in Region 02 for easier retrieval of data.
Ms. Virginia G. Bilgera, science research supervisor and lead enumerator, said that the process of conducting surveys will be a lot easier and faster with the help of the online data based system.
“Having known of the result of our R&D in the previous year, we can improve both our performance in research and in data collection,” she said.
The team will continue to visit all the regions to personally deliver the status of R&D in the Philippines. STRAED-PES is tasked to gather data on financial and human resources devoted to Research and Development all over the country. (KC D. Sucuano/DOST R02-PAI)
