DOST distributes irradiated carrageenan to farmers of Naruangan, Tuao, Cagayan during the celebration of the Provicial Science and Technology Week of PSTC Cagayan.

TUAO, Cagayan, July 13 (PIA) - Farmers in the province reported an increase in rice production after the Department of Science and Technology and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist introduced a technology developed by Filipino scientists.

Dr. Mildred Abella, provincial agriculturist, said that as a result of field trials on Carrageenan Plant Food Supplement, a farmer in Penablanca yielded a 45 cavans increase per hectare or 32.2 percent from the previous planting season.

The supplement is a liquid plant food with macro and micro and phytohormones properties.

The 300 milliliters liquid mixed with 16 liters of water per hectare is thus applied thrice, at 15 days intervals, on the field for direct seeded seedlings.

Cauayan City, Isabela –Isabela State University (ISU) Cauayan City Campus in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 02 has finally launched their bamboo shoot food products coined as “Bamboolicious”.  


 Various innovative bamboo shoot food products are displayed during its launching in Cauayan City, Isabela.

According to Dr. Precila de Lima, campus executive officer of ISU Cauayan, the said venture is one of the supports of the university in the One Town One Product (OTOP) of Cauayan City.

During its launching just recently, various products made of bamboo shoots were displayed and tasted by Isabelinos. These include: Rabong Wine, Rabong with Saluyot, Adobong Rabong, Rabong Catsup, Rabong Juice with Roselie, Rabong Powder, Rabong Atchara, E-curls with Munggo and Rabong, Patty, Chips and Gravy.

What’s in. DOST Regional Offices conceptualize ideas using hashtags and hugot lines for the social media accounts of the said offices. This activity is just one part of the recently concluded Social Media Engagement Workshop for DOST Information Officers at Richville Hotel, Mandaluyong City on June 22-23. It aimed to improve the social media accounts of each DOST office to share a “remarkable, attention-earning and share worthy” articles and pictures using the current trends in social media. The group came up with a live Facebook Account incorporating all the suggestions and the learnings they have acquired during the two-day activity.
