June 15, 2021 – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 02, together with its key partners, held a virtual ceremony to officially launch the Regional Inclusive Innovation Center (RIIC), SHINE Cagayan Valley.

The SHINE Cagayan Valley, which stands for Sustaining Harvest through Innovation and Nurturing Enterprise, is the official brand of the RIIC Initiative.
With its establishment, the RIIC aims to mainstream R&D in the region. It also aims to help local MSMEs use R&D and innovation resources to become competitive entrepreneurs. Its goal is to also help streamline the adoption of technologies for improved production and post-production of local MSMEs.
The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) will serve as the Project Leader, thus receiving Php. 1,000,000 funding, awarded by Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang, DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations.
DOST’s Secretary Fortunato T. dela Peña was also present in the launch to highlight the R&D initiatives of the different agencies spearheading the RIIC. He expressed his support as he states, “I hope that through the RIIC, you will be able to enhance innovation performance in the region. May you be able to strengthen linkages among stakeholders and enable collaborative endeavors.”
The program launch was attended by key partners, namely: DTI, DA, NEDA, PCCI, Cagayan Valley Citrus Industry Development Council Inc., and the five state universities in the region.
