The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through the office of the Undersecretary for Regional Operations and the DOST-Wide, GAD recently initiated an orientation on mental health for the Women Micro Entrepreneurs WMEs of the country that are being assisted by DOST, DTI and DA. The first phase was conducted on September 3, 2021 via Zoom.

WMEs are women-led or women-owned enterprises enrolled under the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) project of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) funded by the Canadian government.
DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Pena in his keynote speech said: “May we continue to share positivity, comfort, and stories to fellow WMEs. May your life serve as a light to those who need it.”
DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations, Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang emphasized the need for mental health and the required coping mechanisms to survive the pandemic.
DOST Assistant Secretary for HRMMSSC and the DOST-wide GAD Focal person thanked the WEE Unit of DOST Region 02 for organizing the event and encouraged the beautiful WMEs to hang on, stating that for every problem there is a solution, for every need, there is a solution.
Meanwhile, Atty. Kristine E. Yuzon Chaves thanked DOST for its active partnership with PCW for the successful implementation of the Women Economic Empowerment Project in the country.
The orientation was conducted through experts from the Department of Health Region 02led by Mr. Jeffrey M. Garcia, Head of the DOH-02 Mental Health Unit; Mr. Keith Clarence R. Bunagan and Ms. Franchette J. Baccay, both Senior Health Program Officers.
Topics discussed in Session 1 were on: Your Well Being and Supportive Communications in Everyday Interactions.
Everyone enjoyed the sessions as they were very practical and engaging. WMEs took time to actively participate using the interactive features of the platform.
