Tuguegarao City – To increase harvest efficiency and to solve drying problems during dry and wet seasons, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 02 led by OIC-Regional Director Virginia G. Bilgera deployed 30 units of Multipurpose solar drying trays to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Ilagan on September 17, 2021.

This drying facility will be distributed to Sindon Bayabo Community an identified CEST area, Asosasyon ng mga Ama, Syudad ng Ilagan (AMA-SILA) and Ilagan Association of Women (ILAW).
The multipurpose drying trays will also help farmers adapt to modern ways of drying and can prevent post-harvest losses in their area. Aside from rice grains, this can also be used in drying corn, beans, vegetables, fruits, and even fish.
Moreover, it can also prevent pest infestations and allow storage ventilation by providing the necessary breathing space between multi-tiers of stored grains to avoid mold, rot, and mildew spoilage.
With the vision of the agency to empower the marginalized groups in the country, DOST 02 continues to reach out and assist these communities in alleviating the damaging impacts of the pandemic. This is one of the initiatives of the agency to help and support Filipino inventors in the country.
