November 26, 2021 – “In the long run, I am hopeful to see Batanes as the leading province in the country, when it comes to S&T innovations.”, Ms. Mary Ann P. Maglasin, Officer-in-Charge Office of the Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology Region 02 (DOST R02) said.
DOST R02 awarded units of STARBOOKS and RxBox in the province of Batanes. This is done through the Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) in Batanes, headed by Director Nora T. Garcia.
Two units of RxBox was given to the municipalities of Sabtang and Itbayat. Moreover, three units of STARBOOKS was given to the schools in Batanes. The schools are Basco Central School and Saint Dominic College of Batanes Inc.
The people of Batanes would have an access to healthcare consultations and free academic resources through these technologies.
The RxBox is a portable telemedicine device capable of capturing medical signals through built-in medical sensors. While STARBOOKS is a portable library containing academic resources which can be accessed online and offline. (S&T Pen 02-Hanz Mallillin)
