Tuguegarao City- The Department of Science and Technology Region 02 sustained its support to the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with a total of P 87,521,501.87 to 91 business firms in the region.

Unlike the usual awarding of SETUP, most of the beneficiaries received their Innovation Funds straight to their bank accounts in observance of Community Quarantine brought by the Covid19 Pandemic.

DOST RO2 Director Virginia G. Bilgera, with her strong commitment in leveling up the scale of the local MSMEs, made sure that the new breed of SETUP beneficiaries received their iFund particularly those that are in essential service and product providers in order to boost their morale as MSMEs become one of the highly affected sectors amidst this health crisis.

Dir. Bilgera aims that this assistance from the government would give hope and contribute to the improvement and success of their business firms especially during this challenging time.

Of the 91 business firms, 5 of them are from Batanes, 29 from Cagayan, 27 from Isabela, 12 from Nueva Vizcaya, and 18 from Quirino.

As to their sectors, 9 is in Aquaculture, 33 in Food Processing, 9 in Furniture, 5 in GDH, 16 in Horticulture/Agriculture, and 19 in Metals and Engineering.

Moreover, during the Regional science and technology week, DOST02 awards ownership to 57 SETUP Graduates has fully refunded the financial assistance provided by the DOST through its Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP)

“This is another opportunity and a chance to recognize their achievements through the shear of their hard work, passion, perseverance, excellence and battle towards new normal” Dir. Bilgera said.

Tabaog Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operation Services, and Ms. Mary ann P. Maglasin Assistant Regional Director for Finance and administrative Support Services
