March 3, 2023. - The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 02 through the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) – Isabela successfully conducted Training on Extraction and Production of Citronella and Packaging & Labeling to the San Mateo Citronella Producers and Processing Association at Brgy. Marasat Pequeno, San Mateo, Isabela.
Mr. Russell Aquino and Mr. Angelo Capurian both Project Technical Assistants of PSTO Isabela served as the resource speakers in the said activity. Mr. Capurian, discussed the cultural management of Citronella its benefits and uses, while Mr. Aquino highlighted in his discussion the Packaging and Mandatory Labeling Requirements required by the Food and Development Authority (FDA).
The activity aims to give knowledge to the said association regarding Citronella oil production, its cultural management and uses, as well as to encourage the association to follow the labeling requirements in the Philippines and be innovative with their product packaging.
The training was spearheaded by Mr. Lucio G. Calimag, Provincial Director of DOST PSTO Isabela.
PD Calimag discussed the proper extraction and production of Citronella Oil. He also inspired the participants to pursue Citronella production as there might be hands-on training on oil extraction.
Meanwhile, he introduced the Packaging and Labeling service of the PSTO – Isabela for they can avail product label design for free.
The said activity was participated by the officers and members of the San Mateo Citronella Producers and Processing Association, among others.
