March 13-14, 2023- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 02 together with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST-11) has successfully conducted its Luzon’s first ever SalikLakbay Solutions Mappers Training and Immersion for the DOST’s new program Grassroots Innovation for Inclusive Development (GRIND).

Through the diverse leadership of the Regional Director Dr. Virginia G. Bilgera, the said activity in the region boosted “SalikLakbayers” or the trainees in pushing their inner community-aide in grasping creative solutions to the pressing local problems.
The local town of Sta. Teresita in Cagayan specifically in Barangay Aridowen felt the presence of the team as where this town was first plotted for the immersion to conduct within the members of Indigenous People (IP) or the “Agta Tribal Council.”
This community was composed of 44 households in which the SalikLakbayers unfold grassroots innovations (GI) from families as to how they dealt with immediate requirements to their day-to-day survival most especially in searching for their basic needs.
Apart from solutions mapping, DOST Region 02 also provided strategies for advancing and improving community livelihood, particularly in Barangays included in Geographically Isolated and Advantaged Areas (GIDA) offering them a range of innovative solutions as to how to help them without changing their cultural beliefs and heritage.
Attending partner agencies were Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Cagayan State University (CSU), Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), Sierra Falcones, Philippine National Police (PNP), National Commission in Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), and among others.
