Who We Are

In 2016, the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. 02 (DOST02) in partnership with PCAARRD and PNRI, distributed Carrageenan Plant Food Supplement (CPFS) to four (4) provinces namely: Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and Quirino.

The Carrageenan Plant Food Supplement is a Science and Technology (S&T) product developed by DOST – Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI). It contains phytohormone-like compounds that supports growth and development of crops. A study conducted by University of the Philippines Los Baños has found that this product can increase the yield of rice by more than thirty percent (30%).

The potential ability of carrageenan plant food supplement (CPFS) to increase rice yield can be a promising solution to a sustainable rice production in Cagayan Valley (Region II) that can promote countryside development and alleviate poverty.
