2017 JLSS QUALIFIERS 

 

 

91 third year college students in Cagayan Valley Region are now DOST scholars after passing the qualifying examination on Junior Level Science Scholarships (JLSS) spearheaded by the Department of Science and technology – Science Education Institute held on November 19, 2017.

Based from the records of DOST Region 02, there is a 16.97 percent increase on the number of passers in the recent examination, from 60 passers in JLSS 2016 to 91 passers in 2017.

The JLSS aims to increase and strengthen the country’s science and technology education by increasing the number of scientists and engineers, and boost the country’s economy regarding science and technology.

The scholarship program offers different types of scholarships under R.A. 10612, R.A. 7687, and the Merit Scholarship program. Students who qualified under the R.A. 10612 and R.A. 7687 are privileged with tuition fees, book allowance, monthly living allowance, and other school fees for two years. Scholars under the Merit scholarship program will also get the same benefits excluding the monthly stipend based from the family’s socio-economic status.

Upon their completion of S&T priority courses, scholars are required to render service in the country equivalent  to the length of time his/her scholarship. Scholars qualified under the R.A. 7687 and Merit Scholarship are expected to work along his/her field of specialization; while passers under the R.A. 10612 shall teach full time subjects related with S&T in public/private high school for two years.

The JLSS examination is conducted yearly for junior undergraduate college students in the Philippines. Application form can be downloaded at www.sei.dost.gov.ph.
